Wild plum, white oak, blue ash, black walnut, and redbud are just a few of the many trees found in the forests of Franklin County. Learn twenty (or so) of the most common trees and some of their unique attributes during this 1 mile hike at West 6th Farm led by forest ecologist, Heather Housman. Native trees provide important food and habitat for lots of animals. American elm is an important host plant for many types of butterflies including hackberry butterfly, mourning cloak, and question mark. Plum attracts an array of birds such as orioles, cedar waxwings, and thrashers.
