Paddle For A Purpose: Sundays on the Kentucky River

Join Woods and Waters Land Trust for four Sundays in October as we paddle the length of the Lower Kentucky River. Each week, we’ll cover a new section of the river. Large limestone cliffs, rolling river fields, bald eagle nests and muskrat workings are some of the natural beauty you’ll experience here—plus historic bridges and communities. We will lock through 4 operational river locks. Paddlers of all experience levels are invited for these flat-water excursions.

This year we will begin with Pool 1 at Carrollton and finish in Pool 4 at Frankfort. Each Sunday paddle will include locking through a lock and dam.

All necessary equipment and shuttle services are provided. Refreshments and snack bags will be made available at each event, and community celebrations, including food trucks, live music, educational booths and more, will occur after the events in Frankfort and Carrollton. All proceeds go directly to the Woods and Waters Land Trust.

Bring your own canoe or kayak, or rent one from Paddle For A Purpose partner Canoe Kentucky. All proceeds go directly to the Woods and Waters Land Trust.

Leg #1 - Oct. 6, 1pm- 5pm  Put In: Below Lock & Dam #1 (Carrollton, KY) Take Out: Point Park (Carrollton, KY) **Drop your boat with CKY team at lock and dam 1. Meet at Point Park Boat Ramp to start the trip. We will shuttle participants to lock & dam 1 to put in below the lock. You will take out at Point Park where your car is parked.

Leg #2 - October 13, 1pm- 5pm  Put In: Six Mile Creek (Lockport, KY) Take Out: Gratz Ramp (Gratz, KY) **Drop your boat with CKY team at the put in on Six Mile Creek prior to trip. We will meet at Gratz Boat Ramp and shuttle everyone to Six Mile Creek launch. You will take out at Gratz Ramp where your car is parked.

Leg #3 - October 20, 1pm- 5pm  Put In: Stillwaters Campground (Frankfort, KY) Take Out: Stillwaters Campground (Frankfort, KY) **No Shuttle. Starting and ending at the same location.

Leg #4 - October 27, 1pm- 5pm  Put In: River View Park Boat Dock (Frankfort, KY) and Take Out: River View Park Boat Dock (Frankfort, KY)  **No Shuttle. Starting and ending at the same location.
